I used to go to a church where the pastor was a musician. I told him how I loved putting Bible verses to music. He said we could sing those songs in church and was very enthusiastic about it. So, one day I put my hand-written music before him. He sat at the piano and started playing with great interest, singing as he went along. But, to my great surprise, when he had played the last note, he fell silent…
Here is the psalm that he played. I have arranged it in my own style.
ABOUT ME
My Background
I am a classical guitarist, writer and composer. My musical journey began when a family friend gifted me a nylon-stringed guitar sometime before high school. A couple of years later, I had taught myself to read music, play classical guitar and church organ, and compose music!
Current Projects
I am currently composing a set of chorales as well as songs for children. I plan to use the finished material to produce two CDs: a chorale album and a CD titled ‘Ten Nature Songs for Children’.
I have always loved the bel canto (beautiful song) style of music. That’s why, in my compositions, the emphasis is on the melody and some of my themes sound as if they are from a film score.
Besides writing and composing, I play classical guitar whenever the opportunity arises – parties, corporate functions, etc.
The Future
In the coming years, my focus will be on setting poetry to music and developing classical music for children.
I have a working knowledge of French, Spanish and Italian and so often turn to European songs (by Jeanette, Dalida, Joe Dassin, Demis Roussos etc.) for motivation. While the melody of the Spanish song ‘Morir al lado de mi amor (To die next to my beloved)’ by Demis Roussos is not in my style, the words set the standard that I aspire to.
